1. On that last note, having the hotel somewhat removed (like a 15 minute drive to the closest big village, Lahaina) was also a bit of a relief in terms of getting away from the hoards of American tourists that are of the loud, my-grandma-bought-me-this-t-shirt-in-Hawaii type crowds.

7. But back to the Ritz-if you want to see madness, hear good old cursing out loud, smoking everywhere, public drunkeness and havoc in general, there are a string of very well known chain hotels five or so miles down the coast-this is all West Maui.
