1. Another possibility could be to stay at more distant hotels (located out of Manhattan, near the airports (Newark or LaGuardia) or somewhere else, that are served by the subway/train system allowing you to get a better and cleaner hotel for a cheaper price and fast access to Manhattan (beware of train fares that could get expensive depending on your location).

2. For cheaper junk food (pizzas, hot dogs, etc) you could also go to Penn Station.

5. And since we were in a rush for time, we left the hotel quickly to baord a taxi, thereafter realising that it was definitely cheaper to take the taxi to LGA airport instead of taking the bus.

6. Initially the guy tried to con and 'force' us to buy the opera tickets, which i later realised could be purchased at a cheaper price if you do not mind queueing up for the half priced tickets in NYC.

7. All in all in New York you wont find a cheaper hotel in that location, but it was the worst hotel I've ever been in.

10. Yes, a hard floor, lights and the airport was so much better (and cheaper) than staying at this rancid place that should be turned into something more useful like a rock or a water fountain.
