While the lobby and luggage storage area were offputting at first because it was so overcrowded with travelers, nevertheless the cool programmable elevators zoomed us up immediately to a very quiet smoke-free floor and we loved our tiny room that reminded me of a well-designed living space in Tokyo with advanced engineering for tiny spaces and cool sleek Euro design in great bathroom and adorable bedroom and GREAT view of the city at Times Square out our window.

8. I know NYC hotels aren't cheap but despite paying about $180 per night for a tiny, grimy, dated room it was very galling to be greeted by a rude woman on reception telling us 'we are enjoying the cheap rates now but this won't last after the refurbishment'.
