1. Just one word of warning for those who choose to walk around, turning right out of the hotel main entrance and down the street a few blocks leads you to welfare missions and there are some pretty scary looking people who frequent this area as well as the HObos who seem to be everywhere in San Francisco.

2. The neighborhood, if you turn the wrong way, can be quite scary, so get familiar with your bearings early.
