1. Beautiful reception area, tired and dated rooms.

After reading other reviews on this site I was very dubious about staying at the hotel, on arrival the reception staff were very friendly as was the bellman who took our cases to our room, The room was clean and spacious and although the decor is dated this goes with the keeping of the period of the hotel, For me the location of the hotel was great close to times square, empire state building and 5th avenue, if you want to venture futher grand central station is 2 blocks away, I would stay at this hotel again and dont know why this hotel has had such bad reviews but then you cant please everyone.

3. The guestroom was dated and the office chair used to be gold but overtime got worn to this sooty black color that no one had bothered to clean or remove.

We'd been at the Wellington Hotel a few days early and foudn this to be a very similar type of hotel, dated but lots of charm and generally clean, again I emailed ahead to say it was a special occassion ;) and got an upgrade to a bigger room that was on the corner and overlooked Madison and 45th.

10. Generally the decor in the room was a bit tired, the carpets were warn, tiles in the bathroom were cracked, the shower was dated and strictly average etc.
