All the poorly-done details stood out so much it was hard to overlook the room's many faults: loud fan in the heater/AC unit, chipped paint throughout, bathroom door wouldn't shut, poorly-fitted ceramic tile 'fixed' by wide grout lines and globby caulk to fill in the gaps, wallpaper seams lifting, cheap uncomfortable pillows, etc etc. The room was really stuffy, and it took a major effort to get the windows raised.
