1. I stayed the Westin Times Square for a week during spring break (got an amazing deal of $155/night on Hotwire).

2. Booking well in advance, we got a great deal on a large 25th-floor room with a comfortable King bed, a spacious closet to hang all our clothes, and an interesting view of NYC skyscrapers and Madame Tussaud's on the street below.
