1. Things are getting a bit shabby, chipping paint, worn carpet, that kind of thing.

4. The room was cheerless, with the tiniest bathroom I've ever seen, chipped paint on the sliding closet doors (so you couldn't see or get to your garments easily), no robes, a broken safe, and a broken hairdryer.
