1. I am not sure what problems recent reviewers experienced but on a second trip here this year and also as a regular returning visitor, I do not see any noticeable changes in quality or staff attitude.

2. It took me several calls and I finally had to physically come down to take care of two problems in my room that the desk staff didn't even acknowledge until the valet reminded them to call someone.

5. I promptly called the front desk, saying that it appeared there had been a bed bug problem in this room and I wanted to be moved to another room as far from this one as possible where no guests have complained of bugs in the past.

I still think Kimpton hotels are wonderful, quirky, and worth staying in, but I strongly recommend that after a bug problem, especially a bed bug problem, the Serrano Hotel should read up on where these little critter like to hide, and send their housekeeping staff in to clean the crap out of the rooms after the bugs have been killed.

8. I think Serrano has treated the problem rooms and we found the aftermath of the extermination (no live bugs, just dead remains), but I WISH they had cleaned the room up after the exterminators were there.

Pluses*large room *comfortable bed*quiet with windows closed* free wireless internet and $10 free minibar with Kimpton In-Touch membership *aveda products * restaurant downstairs Minuses *extensive (wall to wall) mildew in the bathroom above the towels* not the safest area at night but not the worst either (the Hilton is across the street but so are various motels and massage parlors) *customer service varies from excellent to indifferent depending on the individual *overpriced room service: inflated prices (compared to the restaurant's menu downstairs) + $3 service fee + mandatory 20% gratuity Note: I noticed the bad mildew problem in the bathroom in the morning and notified the Front Desk Clerk at checkout.
