1. I was disappointed that the Oak Room was closed but dined in the 1st floor bar/restaurant and was very happy with the choice of food and cocktails.

The champagne bar is fun for cocktails but closes fairly early leaving only the Rose bar which is a dark, strange place with the feel of maybe and old New Orleans bordello (or what I would imagine one would look like!) The concierge was charming and solicitous and the bell staff friendly and personable - every one of them.

Instead of a welcoming smile as you return every day, you are faced with a large bouncer asking for ID - apparently to stop the tourists entering the hotel, but it is just not a polished welcoming solution (especially with kids)Saturday night after returning from a great night out and looking forward to a bottle of champagne to celebrate the weekend, we found that after dropping of our coats etc the bar was closed for a private function - at 11:30pm .

5. One other thing Todd English in the basement of the hotel, damn good food and fast,its a sit at the bar scenario so you will be seated near a stranger but thats part of the fun.

9. I will mention that we had wine at the Champagne Bar also at the Plaza Hotel, which I would also highly recommend as it is intimate and provides beautiful views out onto Fifth Ave.

10. Upon check out we then found $200.00 worth of extra charges (phone calls, bar charges, etc) on our bill that we didn't use and when pointing them out we were told in a snotty way that 'someone must have snuck into our room and used our phone'.
