1. I was completely unimpressed by the decor, the inexperience and poor training of the staff (who seemed in general a nice if hapless lot), and the general lack of warmth and luxury.
"Once and Never Again " Read full review on TripAdvisor   5/22/2012 Vote
2. The neighborhood is largely comprised of government office buildings and lacks dining options outside of the hotel.
"Great Hotel, Good Location " Read full review on TripAdvisor   5/21/2012 Vote
3. The concierge were generally unenthusiastic and couldn't recommend any place decent to take our family for dinner plus they lacked any sort of conviction that the restaurant would be kid friendly.
"Average for a 5 star / Mandarin " Read full review on TripAdvisor   4/17/2012 Vote
4. The only drawback to the room that I was able to see was the lack of a coffee maker and coffee; however, this was remedied without and hesitation whatsoever by staff with a simple request on my part.
"Outstanding Experience! " Read full review on TripAdvisor   4/6/2012 Vote
5. A good presentation of food, my only criticism is that there is a lack of balance with not enough savoury items and a few too many sweets ( and this despite having a sweet tooth ).
"Afternoon Tea at the Empress Lounge " Read full review on TripAdvisor   2/25/2012 Vote
6. You will be hard pressed to find anything lacking at this hotel.
"Luxurious stay in the heart of D.C. " Read full review on TripAdvisor   1/30/2012 Vote
7. While a cynic may interpret this as lack of coordination, I instead was impressed that so many different teams within the hotel staff took ownership of the issue and addressed it in a more than satisfactory manner.
"Great Service " Read full review on TripAdvisor   1/5/2012 Vote
8. Overlooking the Potomac, Tidal Basin, and Interstate 395, the development surrounding the hotel is a gem in a neighborhood that lacks the feel of an actual neighborhood.
"Mandarin Makes The Best of an Awkward Location " Read full review on TripAdvisor   11/17/2011 Vote
9. I know this sounds whiny - I fess up to that - but to me it reflects a lack of true instincts for hospitality that genuinely top-notch hotels all have.
"Great hotel, but reservation got bumped " Read full review on TripAdvisor   9/23/2011 Vote
10. Although the wedding was nice the hotel was really lack luster.
