3. It's a nice neighborhood to walk through and look at the architecture and gardens, and the hotel was within walking distance to Fillmore Street, which has some great little restaurants and an eclectic variety of shops.

7. Fishermans Wharf is an interesting walk down the hill, The Presedio is a walk away, great resturants and shops a couple of blocks the other way.

8. The hotel is by no means 'central' but for us it was part of a proper San Francisco experience (lots of hills and different neighbourhoods!) and it's perfectly possible to walk all the way to the piers/centre and back from the front door (and we did).
