2. Helpful reception staff, lovely decor in common areas, a car that will run you downtown at certain times of the day (instead of taxi/bus/walk etc), rooms cosy - maybe the bathrooms could be updated but they were clean and perfectly adequate.

There are so many perks; almost too many to name but I will try: courtesy chauffeur service weekday mornings, DVDs for free rentals, available boxed lunches for picnic, excellent neighborhood with gorgeous homes, tasteful and gorgeous decor, comfortable sofa and bed, fresh biscotti in afternoons, fresh fruit, helpful walking guides, space heaters for chilly/damp San Francisco weather.

6. this is not a modern, hip hotel, and that's why we loved it; old style fire sprinklers, windows that open up - the decor screams 'old style swank and glamour, and we *loved* it!don't bring your kids and teens here; don't come here if you want to 'party' - stay at the wharf for that.

7. The hotel also provided complimentary printed guides matching traveler interest: restaurants, shopping, ethnic eateries, romantic hideaways, etc. The large bathroom and beautiful decor was a welcome retreat at the end of our long days exploring the city.

In summary for The Drisco - Excellent, friendly and helpful staff, comfortable and clean rooms with neat little touches of detail, modestly stylish decor that struck the right balance between neutrality and warmth, very good breakfast, emminently useable fitness room, and a place that you looked forward to coming back to.
