I gave Hotel Wailea 4 stars instead of 5 because there are some areas that I thought could use improvement -- (1) There is a small kitchen, but it is not very functional (adding a small microwave and some basic cooking utensils/pots and pans would help); and (2) some areas clearly have not been updated and could use attention (stained carpet in closet, parquet floors in bathroom, peeling shower paint).

9. We had to change rooms once due to the bathroom tiles in the first room having chips/peeled paint (looked worse than it was) and our view was the back of a house).
