3. I'm actually not one to bad-mouth places, but this was an awful experience heightened by the fact that nobody in the hotel (except for Dwayne the maintenance guy) cared about the state of affairs.

We drove up to Waimea (Charly's Thai restaurant is good, but stay away from the awful Italian/pizza place next to it -- we walked out after being completely ignored for fifteen minutes and then being insulted by the snarky server (who appeared to be a member of the family who owns the place) for several meals, and down to Kona for one (Wasabi restaurant is excellent).
