I think that if you're going to make excuses about the hotel being shabby due to a major renovation, you should drop your prices in the meantime and offer free amenities such as wireless access, internet, breakfast vouchers, etc. To compare yourself (as the manager did) to other hotels in the area that charge for these services is ridiculous.
