1. I've heard a few reviews say that it's situated in a rough area, but my cousin who's a cop and has friends who patrol the Sutter Street area says it's pretty decent and safe, not perfectly clean but bearable.

3. 5 years back in the 90's and unfortunately some things haven't changed: in some of the neighborhoods and certainly this one, there are a lot of rough-looking people out on the streets at night and while many of them are decent people, some of them can be quite aggressive, obnoxious and downright scary.

4. I stayed in (and paid for) an UN-RENOVATED room which was a bit rough around the edges but provided basic needs and was clean.
