1. I also wondered if perhaps the hotel would have too much of an 'old' quality to it which might disappoint.

The first morning we wondered down to the White House and attractions which were about an hours stroll away, we were a bit disappointed at first as the hotel is to far from the attractions, however we purchased a 3 day ticket on the Trolley Tour which had a stop right outside our hotel which made all the difference.
