For about the same net
cost
per night there are better-run properties and lower
cost
options are a few blocks away.

There are also high quality food stores such as Treasure Island in the area, and their deli section, salad bars, and hot food selections are surprisingly nice and fairly reasonable in
cost
.

The Allerton Hotel was well decorated, nice looking, and

effective.

We had to upgrade to a double bed room and the
cost
was another $25, and even after that the room was very small.

Meals are good and well priced for Chicago but by far the best thing about the hotel is its location, smack bang in the middle of downtown Chicago so it
cost
s nothing in a taxi to get to say the financial district or hop on the 'L' (train) to see a baseball game at Wrigley Field.

The prices were at typical Streeteville levels, so presumably food
cost
s plus the $50 per night parking fees makes up for the discounted room rates that are often available.

Despite the
cost
of the room (which I believe should have been comped because of our ridiculous wait), we paid $50 for parking + $18 for other fees (taxes?), I felt totally ripped off for the money I paid.

If you drive to the hotel, parking is available in the garage next door and
cost
s over $40 per 24hrs (ouch!; but common in the city).

Secondly, don't forget to factor in the

of parking.
