1. There is nothing 'deluxe' about the deluxe ocean view rooms, except for the nice view of Hilo Bay.

4. 'There is not much to do here except RELAX', take in the scenery and learn some history(tsunami history, WWII history, volcano flow/eruption history, western 'discovery' of Hawaii etc).

5. The staff seems to be friendly except the receptionist who is always unwelcoming and busy dealing with other things instead of greeting and helping you.

Having read previous reviews of this hotel we were pleasantly surprised it was better than 21/2 stars it may have been dated but was what i would call Hawaiian chic everywhere we went seemed to have the same style, it was very clean and the service was excellent we went on an excursion with the tour company in the foyer and it was exceptional.

8. And getting back to the lobby----what i thought was unusual is that it was almost completely closed in (except where you drive your car).

10. It made this hotel feel as complete as any more expensive, trendy Hawaiian vacation experience, except rarely does a hotel guest feel so special as here.
