1. We thought breakfast at Mels Drive-In on Van Ness Ave was the best locally, or if you're walking towards Downtown on Sutter Street visit Lori's Diner on corner of Powell, next to Cable Car line.
"Great value hotel " Read full review on TripAdvisor   4/29/2012 Vote
2. Hotel Carlton prides itself on its 'green' creds -- solar powered, lots of recycling, flitered water dispensers, etc. it's all true, but i think what sets this nicely-decorated, surprisingly comfy downtown hotel apart is its fantastic service.
"fantastic service; comfortable and classy " Read full review on TripAdvisor   1/23/2011 Vote
3. Although the hotel is a little out of the Union Square, downtown area we had no problem walking to tram stops and there are bus stops by hotel.
"Great staff and atmosphere " Read full review on TripAdvisor   7/18/2010 Vote
4. Didn't try the restaurant except for breakfast (you can't really get room service as the restaurant is owned by a separate company), but there are plenty of alternatives nearby - try Colibri (Mexican) and Francis Ford Coppola's Cafe Zoetrope in North Beach, a pleasant and non-hilly walk downtown.
"Great hotel, walls too thin " Read full review on TripAdvisor   3/18/2010 Vote
5. I find all of this entertaining and since on vacation, I like to look out the window or wander the downtown streets night and morn for a view and taste of San Francisco flavor.
"My favorite downtown hotel " Read full review on TripAdvisor   12/27/2009 Vote
6. Great route although the last hill from downtown to Sutter was a Killer.
"Nice place to stay, comfy and great location " Read full review on TripAdvisor   12/2/2009 Vote
7. The location was great because it was downtown and NOT in the tourist area, which we loved.
"Very Friendly, Good Location " Read full review on TripAdvisor   1/23/2009 Vote
8. Since my beautiful (and new) wife and I were not experienced with the first hotel we stayed when we first came to SF (Hotel Drisco), I thought it would be fun to stay downtown for a change.
"Good hotel in the heart of SF " Read full review on TripAdvisor   10/21/2008 Vote
9. Encountered no problems with the supposed dodgy neighbourhood, and felt as safe as we did when downtown.
"Great value hotel " Read full review on TripAdvisor   4/29/2012 Vote
10. You can easily walk to Union Square but you would have to take a Cable Car to get Downtown or to Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39, Golden Gate Bridge etc. But it's a great excuse to hop on and off.
"I would stay here again! " Read full review on TripAdvisor   4/19/2012 Vote
