5. Wifi was complimentary, the bed and linens were super comfortable, the shower was powerful, the bathroom was well-stocked with plush towels and soaps/shampoos/lotions, and the flat-screen TV provided the news I needed at the end of my long days.

The concierge was always staffed by courteous and informed, multilingual people, one of whom got me to a florist for an orchid corsage, provided a map, got me a complimentary New York Times, recommended a restaurant with outstanding lox and bagels, made a reservation at a jazz club, and deftly pocketed the tip I gave her for her invaluable assistance.

We arrived at The Empire Hotel on the 25th Apri, I know that the hotel had been 'informed' prior to us arriving that it was mine and my twin sisters 40th Birthday on the 26th, maybe on the hope that we 'might' get an upgrade on the room (but those kinds of things dont happen to me), but there was nothing at all said, no complimentary drinks, nothing.
