1. I visited a friend at her hotel on Waikiki beach: beachside restaurant and bar with quiet music playing, access to the water, great views, lovely garden, nice walks on recently renovated city streets and shopping/dining - and decided the Ala Moana hotel's proximity to the convention center wasn't worth the minuses.

4. The cons: my room looked out over parking lots and buildings (no greenery whatsoever), noise from bars on the top level of Ala Moana Center could be heard at night, and the room was kind of dated (small tv, polyester bedspread).
