1. Yes you can find cheaper hotels but you will not find a higher end hotel like this any cheaper.

2. Ellen's stardust diner is literally opposite the hotel and does a fab breakfast much much cheaper.

3. The staff were very friendly and the concierge was very helpful, we did not eat at the hotel as the staff reccommended so many good (and cheaper) places nearby.

5. If you don't want to get your laundry done in-house, there is a laundromat just a few doors down that does a great (and much cheaper) job, there are loads of restaurants and cafes within a very short walking distance, and you really are pretty close to a lot of NY landmarks.

7. The hotel rooms were spacious and very clean the only downside is they did'nt have tea/coffee making facilities in the room but we used to nip to Macdonalds which was next door and a lot cheaper than room service or the restaurant.

9. Flew into newark with continental got a taxi $80 including tolls and tip, can get cheaper transfer such as a bus.

As a cheaper option, if you were booked into the hotel you could eat elsewhere and then come back for a drink in the hotel bar and still then access a small part of the balcony set further back but still with a view of the ball drop at midnight (although there is no guaranteeing you will be able to do this in future years).
