1. I don't know the history of Portland well enough to know what it started as, but it clearly began life destined to become a classic, and the Kimpton group has enhanced and keeps it to completely up-to-date standards.

6. The meeting space is dreadful and dated--and despite a recent renovation, the hallways have really ugly, old yellow wallpaper (maybe the dogs peed on it???).

8. Thanks to tips from fellow reviewers, I checked the Hot dates Great Rates section of Kimpton`s website and found that 2 of our 3 night stay were included (King Suite for $148).
