1. Do you like a space that isn't 'matchy-matchy', has an official welcoming dog (but no dog noises or smells in the halls or rooms), and offers a complimentary (mostly local) wine and beer reception in the quirky yet comfortable great room every afternoon? Then make this your Portland home.

2. The room was very quiet-- we didn't hear our neighbors at all, and very little noise from the street (very rare for an urban hotel)-- Portlanders seem a quiet, respectful folk.

6. When we checked in, we were unexpectedly upgraded to a lovely suite, which helped a lot to compensate for the horrible construction noises surrounding the hotel---outside of the Hotel Monaco's control.

7. In the morning I told a young man at the front desk and he apologized for the problem and said the hotel has a firm no noise policy.
