I always say that NY is a 'walking city' you can see so much on foot (comfy shoes a must as my sister-in-law discovered to her cost) and this location is so central that straight away you can start exploring without the need for cabs etc.Yes I would agree the hotel is not perfect, the lobby and decor very attractive, we found all the staff very helpful and friendly, but the rooms are not the best i have ever stayed in, having said that we were not in it very much so i don't know why people get so worked up about rooms.

6. I was surprised at some of the negative comments here as we stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and found it to be perfect - reception staff were friendly and efficient and there was plenty of information available in the hotel.

After reading other reviews on this site I was very dubious about staying at the hotel, on arrival the reception staff were very friendly as was the bellman who took our cases to our room, The room was clean and spacious and although the decor is dated this goes with the keeping of the period of the hotel, For me the location of the hotel was great close to times square, empire state building and 5th avenue, if you want to venture futher grand central station is 2 blocks away, I would stay at this hotel again and dont know why this hotel has had such bad reviews but then you cant please everyone.
