1. I did ask some people at the front desk if they could tell us a good place to go for breakfast, that wasn't too pricey and they told us the Evergreen Dinner, which is just out the front door of the hotel, turn right and go around the corner and then halfway down that block on the other side of the street.

3. We stayed at the DoubleTree Hotel at times square to be exactly there when the ball drops announcing the New Year, and we asked for a dinner package that included a privilieged space to see the ball drop.
