1. Staten Island ferry is free and gives the best view of the Manhattan skyline on the return trip and I can heartily recommend Jamesons Irish bar on 3rd Avenue (10 mins walk from the hotel) for a nice pint of Brooklyn lager.

2. The Rockerfeller building has much better views than the Empire State building and there is more space to walk around at the top.

6. The hotel is well maintained, the room my family and I stayed in (Penthouse B on the top floor, 10th floor) is a nice room, although the view from the balcony (yes the penthouse rooms, PHA and PHB, have balconies) overlooks the backs of other tall buildings.
"Nice Hotel stayed March 9 - 13 " Read full review on TripAdvisor   3/20/2012 Vote
7. I'm sure PHA balcony views are much nicer as they overlook the city streets.

8. Some 'niggles':- Central heating system is old and therefore noisy- Lots of noise from A/C units on adjacent properties, which is constant throughout day and night - we coped but some people would find it uncomfortable- Also, view from this room is particularly uninspiring (see photos - car parking lot and yard areas) --- NOTE: all of the 2-bed suites are on the front-face of the hotel, and all 1-bed suites are on the interior ---- Because of the proximity of the car park and surrounding buildings, there was little natural light on the 5th floor- Decor in some parts of the room were 'tired' and need updating, esp.

10. For this price we did not expect views but time spent indoors is more enjoyable if you can read travel guides comfortably.
