2. Drawbacks: no counter space in the bathroom; my room faced Madison Avenue, and I learned that NYC picks up garbage at 11:30 p.m. and sometimes at 1:00 a.m. Although the view was lovely (can see the reservoir at Central Park), the traffic noise interrupted my sleep.

4. When I mentioned the special purpose of the visit to NYC with my elderly mother (celebrating a significant birthday), they not only readily accommodated request for room with a good view, they sent up complimentary wine and desserts.
