6. Spend a little more money and go to a hotel with a solid good rating, or go a little further out from the center of the City because otherwise your first impression is going to be a bad one.

7. other destinations on our trip included LA and San Diego and as much as they were lovely - they were very sanitised - it will be San Francisco (and indeed the Renoir) that leaves the biggest impression - for the right reasons.

10. We both got the impression that he was somehow 'interested' ($$?) in convincing hotel guests to follow him to a property where he potentially could receive a commission for his referral.
