3. With limited room availability in SF when we arrived, we ended up picking the Clift and a 'studio suite' for about $345++ (=$400 nett not including breakfast) which was described on their site as a larger, more luxurious room.

We enjoyed two nights here, upgraded to a suite (because of a delay at check-in) which had a large bedroom with a really comfortable bed, a very large and luxuriously furnished sitting room - all giant mirrors, silky curtains, quirky furniture and huge windows overlooking Geary street, and a surprisingly small bathroom.

6. So overall I would say it's a great place for young people to come for the weekend, but I think for a romantic getaway with my wife we would have preferred a hotel with more luxurious rooms and more amenities.
