1. fresh flowers, black and white tile flooring, narrow staircases with wrought iron railings and marble stairs, worn with the tread of so many hotel occupants and staff, as well as the tiny, mal-functioning elevators, make for an authentic experience.

3. There's a diner next door which is convenient for breakfast, there's also a 'Pret a Manger' around the corner about 1 or 2 blocks which is great for breakfast or lunch, great prices and fresh food.

4. Having the breakfast & cocktails as part of my package was a big plus, because while both were delicious, they were pricey - cocktails were upwards of $20, but they did use unusual ingredients; breakfast was $15 for a pretty basic continental, though a lot of fresh fruit.

5. Complaints about cocktail pricing? Have you been to Manhattan before? Those expensive cocktails were extremely high quality with fresh ingredients and fresh- squeezed juice when applicable.
