1. We most enjoyed eating dinner on the verandah where we took advantage of happy hour specials and watched tropical fish swimming in tide pools beneath the patio/balcony.

3. We stayed at the Hapuna Prince Hotel (double the price) after the Outrigger and realized that their hotel and breakfast buffets were much fancier, but we were perfectly happy with the Outrigger and would stay there again.

4. The staff do not look happy to be there and the hotel is away from town so it you nned to catch a texi ($20 one way) or catch the shuttle which comes by every half an hour and stops at several hotels along the way ($4 per person return).

5. The hotel staff were not helpful, happy to palm you off the the next person when you ask a simple question like how do i get to town or book a taxi to get back to the airport.

We decided to stay away from Kona township, which bustles along with the best of them, and seemed not to far removed from Waikiki - plenty of shopping, restaurants and action if that's what you want - so we chose Keahou, about 8 miles south of Kona, for a relaxing few days and were really happy with our choice.
