1. We loved the understated elegance of the place as opposed to the newer cookie-cutter resorts nearby.

Having seen our friends' rooms, in the south wing of the hotel, I can tell you that while they were great rooms, if you want to go for the full Mauna Kea experience, opt for the rooms in the newer section of the hotel with the beach vice pool view, and separate walkin closet and huge bathroom with rainshower.

6. If you are considering this hotel, I would suggest booking a Beachfront Room-this wing of the hotel is a bit newer and all the rooms face the beach- beautiful views.
