1. I did love the beachside bar, but other than the bar and bartender Sheldon.

4. It was breezy most days during our last visit, so we didn't even try to go to the beach & stayed at the pool, which is OK but they don't call it the Mauna Kea Pool Hotel, do they?Anyway, we love the place, off the beach the staff are wonderful, & it would take a lot to chase us away.

5. Except when closed due to Act of God, my wife & I have been guests here every year for 10 years and, God willing, we will continue to be for many, many years to comeWe love the place to the core of our souls but are not blind to its flaws (most of which appear to be the fault of the bean-counters that seem to have gotten their hands around the neck of the place after the post-earthquake renovation).

6. Even though the palm trees behind the bar & the model of the sailing ship are gone, it is still such a lovely place.

9. I love the Big Island and the weather and beaches are outstanding but I can say that Kauna'Oa Beach (the beach the Mauna Kea faces) is no nicer than many others and this resort is the worst and most poorly priced of any I have stayed at - ever.
"Mauna Kea a HUGE disappointment " Read full review on TripAdvisor   1/27/2011 Vote
10. We loved the understated elegance of the place as opposed to the newer cookie-cutter resorts nearby.
