3. If you fancy a walk to Pier 39 at Fisherman's Wharf through the North Beach then you could easily grab a taxi or enjoy the walk through Chinatown.

4. However, there was one girl who really listened to what we were after and pointed us towards Ocean beach at sunset and the market at the Ferry building on Saturday morning, both of which we would not have otherwise known about, but both of which have gone down as some of the holiday highlights.

Still renovated rooms are great, location is good (restaurants on Russian Hill, in Union Square district, North Beach and Chinatown are all walking or short cab (low cost) distance), unless you walk the Tenderloin, valet parking was polite & reliable, and overall the stay's value for money was absolutely acceptable in pricy San Francisco.

The location of 'Vertigo Hotel' is on the border of lower Nob Hill, but be aware that two blocks down really gets you to the sketchier part of the Market and two blocks west into seedy Tenderloin, known for drug addicts, hookers and quirks: so rather always walk down east to Union Square/Chinatown/Financial/North Beach.
