1. I have stayed in hotels in NYC costing much more than this but nowhere near as good.

2. There is currently no room service available at the hotel, but we found an excellent diner called the Europa Cafe a block away (cross the street and go through the covered walkway and it's on your left) that served a huge selection of breakfasts/meals for all tastes at a very reasonable cost.

3. It costs $45 (flat rate + tolls etc) from JFK airport to Manhattan but expect the final amount to be an odd number so the taxi driver gets a tip (our final cost was $52.30).

4. Some guide books say that a return trip to JFK is on the meter but the taxis clearly advertise a fixed rate in both directions - and the return to the airport cost us $45 + tolls.

5. Standards in NY are different but really, you don't have to stay in a dirty and uncomfortable hotel, you can easily find a hotel at similar cost that is much nicer.
