1. A couple of blocks from Grand Central, close to diners and bars (including the Palm restaurant, which is still good although it's become too snooty for its own good), it's a clean, easy, grown-up place with an elegant atmosphere.

The restaurant is not open at night for dinner because as the hotel staff explained, there are so many restaurants in New York that people living in the hotel were out exploring the city and therefore it wasn't economical to open at night, We were happy to eat out and come back to the bar every night for a nightcap before retiring to bed.

10. It's a 5 minute walk to Grand Central Station and an easy walk to the Museum of Modern Art, Bloomingdale's, and some excellent restaurants.
