1. We complained and were upgraded to a penthouse suite and were given vouchers for free dinners in the restaurant.

The restaurant is not open at night for dinner because as the hotel staff explained, there are so many restaurants in New York that people living in the hotel were out exploring the city and therefore it wasn't economical to open at night, We were happy to eat out and come back to the bar every night for a nightcap before retiring to bed.
