1. We enjoyed the quiet, watched the waves roll in, explored the hotel's beautiful grounds, borrowed bikes and rode to the beach, enjoyed meals in the exceptional restaurant, perused the offerings at the art gallery, and indulged in a spa treatment.

2. Hamoa Beach is 5 minutes away by car, and also unspoiled and beautiful.

6. Better yet, amenities like bottled water and real Kona coffee are free/complimentary, as are the beach shuttles, fresh coconuts made ready for you at your pleasure, the yoga and exercise classes, hula and craft lessons and the wonderful walking tours.

7. During the heat of the day I visit Red Sand Beach, Hamoa Beach, spend time at the lovely gorgeous and serene swimming pool on the property, visit an ancient heaui or hike to a waterfall.

9. We got our fill of the wide white beaches of the West coast, which bring with them the big resorts and denser developments (mostly not the aesthetically pleasing kind), saw the crater, and experienced some local culture.
