1. The only (minor) complaint that I would have with this hotel is the bar - it's really just a small bar serving only odd-ball beers (No Heineken or Bud Light - Pabst Blue Ribbon) and they close early, but they are able to make any mixed drink and the prices are great.

For a decent price, you can stay in a spacious room in a great, centralized location which is easy walking distance to the National Mall, monuments, and White House, a decent cab fare away from Georgetown and other communities, and directly across the street from the Metro Station on two train lines.

It is obvious that the staff enjoys working there -- from Eddie at the front desk (warm, genuine, funny, attentive and couldn't do enough for us); to Karima the concierge, who directed us to great concerts, shows and attractions (with half price tickets!); to sweet Jose' in the restaurant (also couldn't do enough for us); and the GM,George Hummel, whose radar was always alert for someone needing help, directions, fresh coffee or anything.

10. On my last night in DC I moved down the street to the Willard, and it is a great luxury hotel, but it also helped me appreciate how well the Garden Inn fills the sub-lux business niche by giving you prompt personable service without the price or pomp.
