1. The people at the hotel are very friendly, except maybe the doormen for the top floor bar.

2. Can't comment about food or much of anything else except the staff is a bit standoffish and doesn't go out of their way to help except the doorman/bellhops, but this is a very busy hotel with lots of people going in and out all the time.

3. As in New York hotel rooms, most are quite small and this is no exception but slightly larger than what I have experienced in New York before.

4. And as for ideas regarding walks, direct or scenic, restaurants, what to see and what to do, and how to get to events, they were simply exceptional.

5. The Empire could probably do with an overhaul of their air con (it seemed quite old) as when on full blast it is very noisy, however we turned it off at night, so had peaceful sleep except for the hubby's snoring.

6. Have started to use this as home base when I come to NYC -- there is always a 'NYC' cookie waiting for me in my room except for today -- I had a red velvet cupcake.

7. The rooms are small but very clean and have everything you need (except the ability to make yourself a cup of tea or coffe n your room but lots of American hotels do not offer this anyway).

10. We found service to be fine and efficient, except when we requested an additional umbrella on a rainy day and were told there were none (a first in our experience).
