Self employed artists don't have the budget to spend a lot of money for a hotel in Manhattan, so when I chose to stay here with my wife for our 20th Wedding Anniversary, I took a gamble that Hotel 17 was going to be the right combination of affordability, convenience, cleanliness - and still have a funky elegance that artists often respond favorably to.

8. Once I had a room where the cable for the TV did not work, once a room where the internet did not work, in some the mattress was too firm, but if you are looking for an affordable room in NYC, near enough to the subway, in a good enough neighborhood, stay here.
