5. Given the recession and that it is Hawaii's low season we were double upgraded to an ocean view room providing spectacular sunsets as a backdrop to cocktail time on the terrace.

6. We just spent 7 nights at the Hapuna Beach Hotel, sister to the epononymous Mauna Kea Hotel, which is shuttle ride away, and found it a spectacular value as guests have equal access to all of Hapuna's excellent ameneties as well as Mauna Kea's.
