1. We were really worried by some of the reviews of other hotels (too noisy, poor location, bad smells, poor service, etc.

It just has that perfect balance of everything: nice clean tasteful boutique hotel that isn't too big nor too small, fantastic location that's close to transit (walkable from BART which was a huge plus for getting from and to the airport) and restaurants/cafes/bars that's not in an overly busy noisy area.
