2. I have to admit that when I found out that this hotel was 'pet friendly' I was really put off the idea of staying here as although I like animals and have pets myself the thought of staying in a room that may have a 'doggie' smell just didn't appeal to me.

3. My thougths are how about asking them to leave the hotel? You could tell when they checked out since the smoke smell was gone.
