1. Fresh flowers, black and white tile flooring, narrow staircases with wrought iron railings and marble stairs, worn with the tread of so many hotel occupants and staff, as well as the tiny, mal-functioning elevators, make for an authentic experience.

2. The marble stairs have worn down over the decades, such history .

3. In any event, with the small, dark lobby, tiny spiral creeky steps down to the outdated bathrooms, and ancient, worn-out mosiac tiling at the entrance to the hotel, I felt utter disappointment at my '4 star' accomodations which only climaxed upon entering my room which was probably less than 100 square feet (not including bathroom) in area.

4. Modest sized rooms, slightly creaky elevator, decor a little worn in places -- but this classic hotel delivered exactly what I needed and did it superbly.

5. If little quirks and well-worn furnishings repel you, look elsewhere.

6. It was clean, although the carpets look worn and need to be replaced.

7. I didn't see one item - carpet, wallpaper, bedding, paint - in either my room or the hallways or lobby that looked worn or old or peeled or faded.

9. Genteel and classic, but nothing worn out, threadbare, etc.

10. This is a three-star hotel that is best suited to an older neo-con crowd that likes to drink; writers who are drawn to the history and don`t mind the chasm between the hotel`s past liberal literary glory days and its present; and people who don`t mind the well-worn rooms and problems because they got a promotional 'bargain.
