My main issue is the rooms - I am aware this is new York and rooms are always small, but our first room was so small we
barely
had room to walk once we had moved our two suitcases into the room.

The location is great;
barely
a block from Grand Central Station, and a fun walk up Madison to Central Park.

Noise wasn't a problem (but we were quite high up so I don't know about lower rooms) and we
barely
heard other guests on our floor (though there was loud music from the bar (on the 14th floor) one night.

(At one point, there was late-night street drilling going on outside and at another point, the Indian parade was warming up on a Sunday morning, and
barely
a thing could be heard inside my room).

but then the overall theme, ambience and quirkyness is so much more interesting than the run of mill faceless international chains that you will
barely
notice.

The high ceilings definitely helped alleviate the sensation of being in a small space, so we
barely
noticed after our initial shck (from tx where space is hardly ever an issue).

The 2nd floor lounge is amazing - the sounds of the street are
barely

The problem was that it was so small, you could
barely
walk around the bed and there wasn`t much room to put your luggage.
