3. This hotel was superb value for money - lovely, large, spotless, rooms (with two, very comfy, queen sized beds), large pool and jacuzzi, friendly, helpful staff and a free breakfast which included pastries, juices, cereals etc. Very conveniently situated for the beach, seafront and pier.

The Mason Beach Inn felt like it was skimming on the price point of the neighborhood, without giving much more than a modernized Motel 6 provides (we stayed at three different Motel 6's on this same trip, near Disneyland and up north off I-5, and were much happier with those due to their value for the money).

8. We only stayed one night in Santa Barbara en route to LA, so we looked at a couple of motels and hotels in the area (don`t be afraid to ask to see the room and then go take a look at others nearby - the first one you see usually isn`t the best value, or it may even help you to barter the price if it isn`t peak season).
